Here at Bauwerk we believe that children should have a safe home, which includes a home that is as much as possible free from harmful substances that will affect the long therm health of children.

We do not add any chemicals that make our paints scrubbable, nor do we add artificial nanoparticles to protect the surface. We place a higher value on a safe environment than a ‘perfect’ finish.

Yes, children will touch the walls and sometimes scribble on them. But that is something even a chemically laden paint seldom survives without a visible trace.

It is safer and oftentimes quicker to simply paint over the mess small children can cause. If you use a very light coloured shade (ie: Chalk) this can be done just as a localised patch without the need to redecorate the entire wall.

Lime wash paints perform very well when painted into a moderately absorbing surface. They are not film forming and penetrate into the micro pore structure where they turn back to millions of micro-crystals.

Ideal are surfaces such as render, cement, bricks, or concrete.

However, if you just love the look of our paints and want to use our paints on walls that are already painted with conventional paints, they will look the same but they will not be scrubbable.

If we were to make our paints scrubbable then we would need to change the nature of our paint to include chemicals we don’t wish to use or to introduce into our environment, and they would loose the unique look they have.

Our paints are susceptible to marking when splashed with oils or fats due to there chalky nature.

Whites and light colours are very durable, and they are very easily patchable.

It is good to specify lighter colours where you wish to have greater durability.

Light surface contamination can be dabbed off with a clean linen cloth, wax or oil spills should be sanded back. Touch up of smaller surfaces areas is best done by applying very little paint on to the brush, dabbing it on the area that needs touch up and feathering it out in all directions.

Ordinary maintenance is very easy, simply brush off any dust and apply a fresh coat to the nearest break. There is no need to remove existing lime paint.
Long term maintenance is therefore easier with limewash paints, as older layers never require stripping back. They can easily painted over when parts have worn thinner.


Choose our paints because you love the way they look and the way they don't harm our environment.

For ease of maintence choose whites or very light colours. They are very durable and very easily spot patchable.
One of our favourites, for example, is the colour Chalk, Stone or Bleached White from our family of white lime wash paint colours.

Allow for a regular scheduled maintenance to protect and nourish original and repaired render surfaces. We suggest a once yearly inspection.

If part of the existing paints have been left on the surface remove all flaking and loose particles that may have come away from the original surface.

Brush off any dust and remove grime or otherwise adherence limiting substances.

Touch up areas or repaint to neared corner/break as required. One or two coats will be sufficient.
